Eden Reforestation Projects - 15k Trees Planted

Remember when we said we would plant a tree for every product sold?

The planting has begun! Planks, in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects, have already planted 15,000 trees to date.

Eden Reforestation Projects is a non-profit on a mission to plant trees and create employment for impoverished communities. The community grows from seedlings, plants, and nurtures the trees to maturity.

Eden Reforestation’s “Employ to Plant” methodology results in a multiplication of positive socio-economic and environment measures and a LOT of new trees.

To date, the organisation has planted more than 830 million trees, across 250 project sites in 9 developing countries.

Tree varieties are selected, depending on their suitability to the area. Mangroves are the primary tree planted in most of their product sites (check out why Mangroves are so amazing).

Typically, 10,000 - 20,000 mangroves are planted per hectare. That’s an area the size of 48 double-decker buses (parked together with no gaps) planted with carbon absorbing wonder plants, all thanks to you!

So, what’s next? Our goal is to be Netzero by 2037, so we are working on ways to reduce our carbon dependency. We are currently carrying out a carbon audit of our entire business and supply chain. Our focus is on carbon accountability, taking ownership of our carbon footprint, as a business and as people of the planet.

We’d like to say a huge thank you for your support throughout this journey and for being part of the change.

We are not eco-friendly.

“Eco-friendly” gets bandied-about a lot. We see and hear it far too often, usually as part of a slick marketing campaign to get us to buy more. Using buzzwords like “sustainable” and “green” to attract customers is big, and it’s getting bigger.

It’s an easy trap to fall into: Tell people you’re saving the planet for long enough, and you’ll start to believe it yourself.

That’s not for us.
