Organised by Mountain Mavericks, Onyx Snowboard school instructor Laura Berry and Planks Clothing, last week saw over 65 girls take over the Chapelle Park in Avoriaz for a day of coaching, shredding and learning how to ride park with a bunch of awesome lady shredders!
The aim of the day was to introduce more girls to freestyle both ski and snowboard, progress their skills and get hyped in a pressure free environment along with meeting other like minded chicks in town to go ride with!
After a quick registration, the girls broke off into ability groups to get some hints and tips on the beginner boxes and kickers. The legend that is Laura Berry took the boarders while Planks team rider and local Vincent Simonin took the skiers.
Everyone was super stoked on learning new things and it was awesome to see some girls that had never been to the park, sliding boxes by the end of the session and giving 180s on the kicker a go!
After a bite to eat and a beer the jam session kicked off! With Planks team member Rasta Rob on the mic, the Jam Society boys, Vince, Laura and Planks Shop manager Sofford with their clipboards at the ready, the girls got down to business!
The jam session was split into two parts, the first half on the boxes and rail and the second on the jumps. The girls absolutely killed it – huge shout out to Emily Williams and Martha Perry for styling it out on the boxes and Hannah Wilson and Burton shop manager Adele for smashing it out on the kickers.
The end of the session saw everyone at Le Cottage for an après session, with the talented DJ Opheila Bird and DJ Paul spinning the tunes, the prize giving went down with some epic prizes including a Yeti Jacket from Planks Clothing!
A huge shout out to all the girls that made it over and threw down, to Sam Ingles for the photography, Shredits for the filming and to organizers Laura Berry and Daisy Maddinson! Epic day!
